One More Day to Go!

Meet Sandy Taraba from Visions by Sandy...

Photography brings me closer to nature and my "Vision" can capture your forever memories.

My love of photography came from my Dad. I can't remember a time when he didn't have a camera in is hands. My own photography journey started with just taking pictures of my kids. They started calling me "The Momma Razzi".
After sharing Cheer pictures of my daughter, in 2015, I was asked to take the Berkshire Rec Cheer and Volleyball pictures, which I have done for the past eight years. My portrait photography took off from there and my husband bought me my first professional camera. I now do Portrait photography along with Sports. I get super excited when I get to capture forever moments and memories, especially Senior year pics. I enjoy finding their inner beauty and learning about their dreams for the future. I am honored  to capture their final High School picture.
I also absolutely love to capture this beautiful world we live in. There is Mystery and beauty all around us and I enjoy sharing my "Vision" of it, through my lens.  Nature and Birds are my passion. In 2017 I entered my first photo contest and actually won first place..  It was of a Female Cardinal that I took through my sliding glass door. She was looking right at me with an expression of "Who Me"?
Then in 2018 I submitted a Pelican (named him Oscar) to a Smithsonian magazine contest and got "Honorable Mention". At that point, many of my family and friends had encouraged me to sell my images. I didn't even know where to begin. Then a dear friend literally bought me a website and "Visions by Sandy" was created. I sell my images online at Visionsbysandy.zenfolio.com as well as Craft and Art shows.

I am passionate about capturing God's Artwork. I feel in my heart that since it's His Artwork I'm going to put His Word on it.
"His Art, His Word". You will find some of my favorite images with my favorite scriptures on them. Will happily put yours on as well!

I am self-taught and still have a lot to learn. I have definitely stubbled and failed miserably along the way.   My failures in photography haven't been a dead end, but a stepping stone towards my true destination.  They have guided me, shaped me and revealed hidden paths that have lead to my growth and purpose. I stumble but gain wisdom and know that my failures have put me directly on the path where I'm supposed to be.

I love this Photographers poem:
"Life is like a camera. Just focus on what's important and capture the good times. Develop from the negatives and if things don't work out just take another shot". I look forward to seeing where my next shot will take me and what beauty I can capture.

The "Vision" in my Images are personal. You'll find a piece of my heart in every single one.

Meet Eva Zala from Zara Designs & Services...

What inspires me to create.. My hungarian heritage inspired the use of materials showcasing the matyo and kalocsa fabrics from Hungary. I started sewing market bags and kept learning new things to sew. The rest is history!

How I got into my craft.. I remember complaining when my mom signed me up for sewing lessons at Stitch in Time when I was 12. Now I look back on those 6 weeks and feel so grateful for learning the basics.

I come from a family of artists. Some in fine arts, jewelry making, woodworking and culinary arts.

My creative process... I see something that speaks to me, whether it's something to sew, or something to draw or paint. I feel fear and trepidation sometimes to try something new. I let that drive my creative process. There is nothing more fulfilling than to face your fears and see the end result that others appreciate too. Whether it's something they purchase, or even just give a compliment when they stop at my booth!

Meet Rourke Stubna from Art by Rourke....
I am a Kent based artist, currently working in the environmental industry at a Greenhouse.

I've been into art ever since grade school. I started to get more into my artwork in high school, thanks to my school's many art classes, I took every art class available. These classes included drawing, painting, sculpting, ceramics, and other art fundamentals. After high school, I started taking commissions, mainly doing pet portraits. In 2017, I joined an art group, The Novelty Collective, located in Avalon, Pennsylvania (https://www.thenoveltycollective.org/). Their annual Novelty Collective Art & Music festival was my first time being an art vendor. I have been a vendor at their annual festival each year since 2017. This year, 2024, is the first time I'm applying to other art and craft shows. In 2023, I decided to make a career change, running my own art business. While I've enjoyed my work in the horticulture industry, art is my true passion and I'm excited to pursue that passion and make a career out of it.
While I'm not longer interested in an environmental career, my work allows me to be in nature and that is shown in a lot of my work. The beautiful plants I work with, I found painting the plants to be a lot more fulfilling. The various birds I see are perfect subjects for an afternoon painting (and they're my most popular artworks). The landscapes I see inspire my simplistic watercolor landscapes.

My inspirations don't stop there. I am greatly influenced my popculture and music. Often times a song will influence what I create next. The song "Autumn Leaves", or "Les Feuilles mortes", inspired my painting "The Autumn Goddess" (attached), a tree woman, also inspired by the Walt Disney Silly Symphony "Flowers and Trees."
My fantastic art teachers in high school got me into art, and my art community, family, friends, and partner continue to support my art journey.

Years of practice is how I discovered and continue to discover my talents. I enjoy trying new things and learning new techniques. My work is constantly evolving. I'd say my talents are making connections with people through my art. Even if it's as simple as "I like birds, and I Iike your bird artwork."
My creative process is pretty simple: I see it/think it, I like it, I create it. On top of that, I'm always thinking of ways to improve my following pieces or utilize different techniques to keep my art interesting.

My five year goal... I see myself working for myself and making a career with my art. I'll be doing art events all around the country. I also see myself working with other great artists, collaborating on projects.
The message behind my artwork is making connections. Pop-culture is really a unique thing that allows a sense of community, connection, and relatability. In all my art there is some form of pop-culture reference. Such as my Lemon oil paintings are directly inspired by Beyoncé's visual album "Lemonade." My "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rihanna" stickers is a quote from the show Broad City. My Blue Bird painting is inspired by Bestrice from Over the Garden Wall. I think there is a deeper connection someone might feel with a piece, not just because they think it looks cool, but also because they connect with my inspiration behind it.

Meet Logan Carmichael from Red's Custom Woodworking...
I am a medically retired veteran that started woodworking about seven years ago. I was a medic in the United States Army with two deployments to Iraq and six months in Kuwait. I moved here to Ohio about 5 years ago from Minnesota when I met my girlfriend on one of my motorcycle trips.

Chagrin Falls will be my 4th Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show as I just started getting into the craft show scene!
My inspiration to create wooden works of art comes from both my imagination and the mind of those that I create it for. People give me an idea of what they are looking for, and from there, I just start making sawdust. No blue prints, no Auto-CAD, no drawings, just a visualization in my mind and I start creating.
Both my dad and my grandfather are amazing wood working artists, both in their own style, so I take what I learned from them, and add my own little flair to it. In five years, I see myself still creating works of wooden art.

I use wood working as a therapy for my PTSD. I know alot of Veterans out there that suffer from it and I guess my message behind my work, is to find a hobby you love and run with it. It's helped me out immensely and I have made many connections along the way!!
I just recently created a linktree to my social media accounts that have a few works I've created over the past few years. I can only hope that the recipients of my work enjoy them as much as I enjoy making them!! So when you're at the next craft show, if you see the big sign that says, "Red's Custom WoodWerx", stop by and say hello, I love to chit chat!!

See you TOMORROW!

Meet Marissa Barnhart of emByMarissa...
I’ve always been artsy and crafty, but I never considered selling my work until I began creating daily. I was going through a rut in life — I was recently graduated from college and having difficulty finding jobs in my field, and I was feeling really disheartened. I usually turned to writing or drawing, but I had developed carpal tunnel in my hands, and it was affecting several areas of my life. My happiness has always been linked to my creativity, and I was feeling stunted and frustrated. When I discovered fluid art, my creativity was reignited. This is an art form that’s not only fun to do and mesmerizing to look at, but also is easy on my hands. And I can create more often. I’ve been painting and selling as emByMarissa for nearly a year.
Art has been an escape for me since I was young. I’m only 25, but I’ve experienced a lot of hardship. Growing up, I was subjected to abuse, domestic violence and, for a while, poverty. Those experiences led to a lot of anxiety and depression throughout my adolescence and adult life. Creating is my therapy. It’s how I heal my soul. Whenever things start to pile up and feel like too much, art saves me. It’s one of the biggest blessings in my life, and I hope I can bring joy and some form of healing for people who enjoy my work.
I’ve always been fascinated by how things are made, and I have to try it for myself. From painting to paper quilling to sculpting to knitting, there are few art and crafts I haven’t tried. And because it’s cathartic for me, I keep going and continue exploring new art forms. I’ve recently added more resin art to my inventory, and I’m excited to introduce my new pieces. This will be my first show with the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, and I can’t think of a better place to showcase my work.
In the future, I would love to open an art studio and hold classes and dedicate time for art students and other artists to work in a safe space. One thing I hear a lot is, “I’m not artistic; I could never do that.” I’m a strong believer that if someone is passionate enough about something, even if it currently requires skills that aren’t currently in their toolbox, they can develop those skills and become an expert. There’s nothing that people can’t learn. Trial, error, determination and an open mind are key. I want to create a space where I can continue my own art journey while also encouraging and promoting others.

Meet Gina Dean of Mamma G’s Gourmet Caramel Corn…
My name is Gina Dean owner of Mamma G's Gourmet Caramel Corn. I am a mother of four who recently went through a divorce and needed to figure out a way to support myself and still keep the time for my children that I wanted and needed. I started my business in November of 2018, although I had done a few crafts shows in years prior. This show will be my first Avant-Garde show. I look forward to showcasing my product and meeting other like-minded creators.
My children are an inspiration behind my caramel creations. I love to take all the goodies I make for my them and turn them into caramel corn. I have always loved to create things and cook I just put my own twist on it to make my creations unique. I discovered that people love delicious and unique homemade items so I just added that uniqueness to my caramel corn. I also get my inspiration from my love to cook and create. My children, family, and friends also have given me ideas and suggestions that I then figure out how to turn into caramel corn goodies.

I hope to become a household name known for my delicious unique caramel creations. I have been showcased at Duma Meat's Market in Mogadore in November and December. You can also find my product at Erie Island Coffee shop in Rootstown. I have my first wedding shower coming in May along with all the shows I am doing. My message to everyone is it's never too late to follow your dreams. If you do what you love the sky is the limit!

Time to Shop!

Meet Annemarie from Grey Opal Studio...
With degrees in art and art history, creativity has always been a part of my life. I have called Ohio home my entire life. Now, I am married with three, young adult - who are almost out of the house - daughters, and now love being a part of this new community of creators. Grey Opal Studio was launched in the fall of 2018, just in time to participate in a handful of holiday shows. The Chagrin Falls Spring Show will be my first Avant-Garde Art and Craft Show.
The inspiration for my designs come in many different forms: fashion, nature, and historical patterns to name a few. Personally, as a business owner, I am inspired by my family and friends. The encouragement, excitement, and support are what keep me going and believing in myself. Grey Opal Studio was born out of a recent obsession for Swarovski crystal stones. I found myself reaching for the same pair of earrings day after day, wishing I had more choices. Then boom...I can make these! A strong sense of design, color, and just being a visual learner and observer has really helped me in the maker’s industry.
I truly enjoy creating, and I’m learning to embrace the challenge of the business side as well. I design jewelry that I love, they are pieces I wouldn’t hesitate to wear. So my creative process stems from my personal style. In 5 years, I hope to be selling at local shows as well as some in the south. I really enjoyed talking to my customers this past holiday season. It was fun and I loved seeing people try on my jewelry...it begs to be tried on! I am also in the process of growing my wholesale business. The message behind my jewelry is to inspire women to express their individuality and beauty in the workplace, at a party or just running errands!

Meet Maria Falorio from Maria Falorio Kindness Creations...
My name is Maria Falorio and I was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. I am a full-time preschool teacher, but I have a love of creating and crafting. I have tapped into many areas of crafting, from painting to crocheting, but have recently found a love of creating household items and jewelry for friends and family to enjoy. I am excited to begin to share my talents with others! I have had a creative side for as long as I can remember, but I really started creating for other people in college. Since graduating, I find that crafting and creating gives me a sense of joy and relaxation from the “real world” stresses and find myself creating in my free time.
This is my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, and first craft show ever! I am so excited to finally share some of my work. I am inspired to create when I think about the joy that art can spread between people and with an entire community. My hope is that when someone wears my handmade jewelry, they are reminded of how powerful their thoughts, words, and actions are and choose to have a positive day. I also hope they are a reminder to the customer to spread some kindness that day, whether that be through a random act or a small conversation. I hope the same for my household items. The purpose behind them is to serve as a reminder or just bring a smile to someone’s face.
As I stated earlier, crafting became a big part of my life during and after college. I have always found it to be a stress reliever and an enjoyable hobby. Once I was gifted my Cricut, I soon realized the wide variety of items that I can create and personalize and I took off from there! I discovered my talent through trial and error. I fumbled through multiple mediums until I found the one that truly showed me that my creations were not just for me, but that they can bring joy and happiness to those around me if I share them!

I try to create things that I feel would serve as good reminders to choose happiness. I enjoy creating items (such as pillows, dish towels, and makeup bags) that I know people can look at each day, in common areas of the home, and make them smile. Though I do not have a clear plan of where this tiny business will be in the next 5 years, I hope to spread kindness through my work and hope it is shared with others! I plan on exploring other products to create as well as find a way to use this business to give back to the community.

I think it is so important for people to remember that they have the power to decide how their day is going to go every single day. You have the opportunity every day to decide to have a good day and to use your own positivity to lift others. I hope that my work is a reminder to everyone who sees it to choose happy, to spread kindness and to find the positives in each day. I hope my work becomes a reminder to share kind words or participate in a random act of kindness. We have the power to make the world kinder, let’s do it!

Meet Debra Steffans from It's a Wrap Bracelets...
I’m retired from a Commercial Real Estate Leasing career and have been a singer/performer in an all-female, acoustic rock-n-retro band called the Blackjack Gypsies for the last 7 years. I started making Boho-style jewelry in January of 2018, not only to wear while performing but to keep myself busy in the dead of the cold and dreary Ohio winter. This will be my first Avant-Garde show, however, I've participated in four other shows and had four home parties.
My creative inspiration comes from my fascination with the vast array of beads and gemstones I've found online and at retail bead shops. They've come a long way from the plastic beads of the past. The band jewelry actually inspired my new venture. I was very pleased with the first bracelet I created and received many compliments, and have been asked to make jewelry pieces for family and friends. I appreciate their challenging requests and have always received positive responses and great reviews.
My creative process begins with finding the right color combinations, bead sizes, and textures and taking a good bit of time with the design process. In five years, I hope to be deeply entrenched in the art/craft show circuit and possibly selling my jewelry in unique, upscale retail shops. I would also like to work with brides, to create jewelry pieces to give as gifts to their bridal party that are one-of-a-kind pieces to match the color and style of their dresses. My message is to step out of the box and show the world your freestyle!

Meet Robyn Leopold of Celestial Collective…
Hi! My name is Robyn Leopold, I grew up in Chagrin Falls, and have a diverse background of marketing, nursing, and currently getting my MBA. I have a deep love and appreciation for crystals and stones, and their healing power and the positive energy that's given off. I have always been a creative type, and love to put my energy into artwork and jewelry making. I am engaged to be married in April and I have three dogs and one cat! I donate a portion of sales to The Animal Welfare Institute.
I’ve been painting and making various artwork for about five years and recently began my journey of creating jewelry in 2018. This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show. I am so excited! I am inspired by the universe and everything that encompasses it! For instance, the beautiful crystals and stones that have been being created over centuries, the cycles of the moon, the stars in the sky, and the galaxies beyond that-hence the name, Celestial Collective.

I’ve always been a creative person, and find that once I begin crafting/painting/making jewelry, I feel empowered, motivated, meditative. It gives me such an incredible outlet to do something I love and to share it with all of you. Once I started making art and jewelry, people noted how much they loved it and how they’d love to be able to purchase it, so that helped me discover I had a knack for this! My fiancĂ© is also so supportive and an amazing motivator as he’s always so positive about anything I create.
I get inspired by things that catch my eye, which I sometimes put down on paper, and sometimes I’ll just grab the tools I need, and start creating physical items! In five years, I hope to see my business grow tremendously so that it could be a sustainable income source for myself so that I can stay at home with my future children. My message is to stay positive, stay grounded by all of the natural beauty that surrounds you, and feel amazing vibes from inside yourself, being who you are, and knowing that is amazing.

Meet Kristen Walker from ART by WALKA...
I have been teaching special education for seven years, six of which have been in preschool. I am passionate about the work that I do with my students as well as my artwork. I try to find opportunities to share art and creative expression with them as often as possible. I have been painting for over 10 years but began my business within the last year. In general, I like to think that I see the world with an artistic eye. I tend to notice the details of colors, shadows, textures, angles, etc. in most things that I see and often imagine how I would create a painting of what I'm looking at. Specifically, the inspiration for my custom pet portraits comes from the love that I have for my own dog, Roxanne. She and I have a close bond and my very first pet portrait was of her.
Drawing and painting have been life-long hobbies of mine. I can remember keeping sketchbooks filled with drawings of animals and landscapes even as a child. My real talent was discovered thanks to my high school art teacher, Miss Curry. After I finished my very first painting in my very first class with her, she said to me, "You're going to be an artist whether you like it or not." I guess I ran with that. The process is similar for all of my work. I choose the subject, make a decision about the layout, and begin the painting. I start with a sketch of undertones, adding layers of color as I work.
In five years, I hope to continue making artwork for others to enjoy. It is a special thing for me to be able to share art with others, especially when the subject holds personal meaning. The message behind my art is to love what you see. That flooding feeling that overcomes your chest when you're looking at something or someone that makes you truly happy is what I hope to achieve through my art. This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft show!
