Chagrin Falls Show Is Just Around The Corner!

Meet Sharon Martyowski from Pane in the Glass...

I started working with Stained Glass over 35 years ago. While living in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland for over 22 years, I designed, new and restored, and repaired stained glass windows for many of the lovely old historic homes in the area. In my new home in Parma, Ohio, I have been able to expand my studio space and bring new and creative ideas to my unique body of work. I believe in upcycling, repurposing, and sustainability, which is why I incorporate found and deconstructed objects into my pieces, bringing a new dimension to my stained glass projects. All of the pieces from Pane in the Glass are hand-cut and hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind designs.

Next, meet Samantha Elishama from Sam Jam Creative...
Hi! My name is Samantha Elishama, and I am a maker, mother, and writer from Indiana, Pennsylvania. I am the owner and creator behind Sam Jam Creative. Through Sam Jam, I make eclectic polymer clay jewelry and accessories. I am also the owner of Create & Curate, a whimsical gift shop right in the heart of Downtown Indiana. We feature over 40 local vendors in our shop, including everything from jewelry to artwork to Indiana-themed merch.

I have been making polymer clay earrings since January 2020, so just over 6 years now! I opened my retail store in March 2022, and we will be celebrating our 4-year anniversary soon.

This is my very first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!
Inspiration me, it’s all about texture and bold colors. I like simplicity in design and try to incorporate natural, earthly colors in my earrings. I love the outdoors, so you will often find floral or nature-inspired themes in my designs as well.

I have been making jewelry since I was a little girl. From pony bead necklaces to hand-hook rugs, I have always loved to make things with my hands. My medium has certainly changed over the years, but my passion for creating beautiful things has remained.

I started discovering my talent in the Christmas of 2019, when I received a pair of polymer clay earrings as a present from a friend. I absolutely loved them, but as all creatives do, I thought to myself, “Hmm, I wonder if I could make something like this.” After many failures and endless YouTube tutorials, I started to get a knack for working with polymer clay. I was able to utilize my design background and fine-tune my color mixing and earring prototyping process. I’ve certainly grown in my skills over the years and have tapped into a hidden talent I’ve always secretly had.

I have a set number of earring styles that I have been making for years. They are simple styles that have proven to be my bestsellers. But for each new season (springtime, Christmas, fall, etc.), I create a brand new earring collection. First, I make a little mood board on Pinterest featuring different textures, graphics, color inspiration, etc. Once I have my mood board, I create a color palette that I want to incorporate into my collection. Then, I will either reuse or buy new 3D printed clay cutters with various designs. Then I get to making! I try to generate at least a dozen new styles for each seasonal collection.
I would love to expand Sam Jam’s reach by being in more retail stores and coffee shops around the country. In 5 years, I would love to have my earrings in at least 1 shop in every state if possible!

The message behind Sam Jam Creative is “make beautiful things happen.” No matter what season of life you find yourself in, there is always an opportunity to create beauty — through painting, photography, writing, parenting, you name it. I want to inspire others to tap into their creative potential that they may not believe they have. To invite them to return to the child-like wonder of simply creating for creativity’s sake.

Meet Josh from Organic Garments...
Organic Garments, an Ohio-based sneaker business,  is rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and respect for nature. The vision for the business is deeply personal—shaped by the legacy of Josh’s grandfather, a man who cherished the art of growing and found purpose in nurturing plants, vegetables, and herbs. Watching seedlings flourish taught Josh early on that patience, care, and respect for the earth yield lasting rewards. Growing up during the Great Depression, his grandfather embodied resilience. From him, Josh learned values that continue to guide Organic Garments today: do things right, build products to last, honor nature, and never shy away from hard work.

Josh founded Organic Garments in 2018 with a bold goal—to reimagine footwear through sustainable design. He set out to create a plant-based sneaker that could be worn anywhere, anytime, without compromising comfort, durability, or environmental responsibility.  Within the past year, we have commissioned local artists to use our sneakers as canvas to create original art and/or pieces of art that are meaningful to our customers. We pay these local artists the fees collected from their art.

This will be Organic Garments' first year participating in the Avante-Garde Art & Craft Shows, and we are looking forward to sharing our plant-based sneakers.
Nature inspires me to create. There is so much to learn from nature. There is so much beauty in it. If we take the time to just appreciate it, nature can inspire us to do so many things, including creating beautiful, comfortable sneakers from it.

Most of my family is involved in the creative arts in some way. When we were young, our Mother realized we had an interest in the arts and gave us opportunities to participate in the arts. I have also always been interested in sneakers and the fashion business.  I’m fueled by the idea that business can be a force for good, that we can create products people love without compromising the health of the earth. Knowing that we’re pushing boundaries with plant-based materials, reducing waste, and proving that sustainability and style can coexist is what drives me every day. Ultimately, I’m motivated by the hope that our work inspires others to rethink what they buy, how it’s made, and the legacy they want to leave behind.  Also, I wanted to build a sneaker that was not only sustainable and looked great, I wanted it to be lightweight and comfortable, too.

Discovering my talent was a process. I have always been interested in nature and how things are made, so I looked for a way to combine my interest in nature and sneakers. I set out to learn more about sneaker construction, including taking a course led by a Los Angeles shoemaker. I also had a friend whose father owned a fashion brand, so I learned a great deal from being around him. I even researched plant-based fabrics and discovered a fabric made by a B-corp that turned pineapple waste into material, which gave the farmers in the Philippines a second income. Ultimately, it was designing, redesigning, and making several samples through work with factories to realize my dream of crafting a sneaker from innovative plant-based materials, including hemp and pineapple leaves.
During my creative process, I get an idea, and I try to sketch it. The original idea was sketched on a napkin at a restaurant. Once I have the idea, I talk it over with family members. Then, I use software to develop the specs for the idea and finalize the drawing.  I usually have several ideas that I am playing around with until I have the moment when I believe I have the concept to the point of creation.  Since we are also involving new artists in the creative process, it is also inspiring to watch other artists use our sneakers as canvas to create original pieces of art and/or artwork that is meaningful to the customer who inspires the idea.

Right now, I’m especially excited about the next evolution of our footwear line. In the future, we’re introducing two new styles: a high-top sneaker and a blue denim low-top. Both build on everything we’ve learned so far—comfort and sustainability—while offering versatility for everyday wear. We’re using more hemp in both styles, with pineapple leaves, mushrooms, and other plant-based fabrics as accents. Hemp continues to impress us with its natural durability, breathability, and low environmental impact, helping create shoes that last longer and feel better on the foot—especially for people who are on their feet all day.

The message is rooted in responsibility—to the planet, to future generations, and to the values I was raised with. I’m fueled by the idea that business can be a force for good, that we can create products people love without compromising the health of the earth. Knowing that we’re pushing boundaries with plant-based materials, reducing waste, and proving that sustainability and style can coexist is what drives us every day. Ultimately, I’m motivated by the hope that our work inspires others to rethink what they buy, how it’s made, and the legacy they want to leave behind.

Meet Diane Vargo from Whimsical Woodworking...
My name is Diane Vargo, and I'm a health care provider. I got into woodworking about 2 years ago. It started out as a hobby to help relax with my stressful job. Then I found that it's my passion now. I love woodworking and creating art! My niece, Kellie, does craft shows, and she got me to go to shows with her to start selling my art.

Last year, I decided to start my own woodworking business called Whimsical Woodworking. I chose this name because it's fun, and that's what woodworking is to me.

April 11th will be my first Avant-Garde show, and I'm excited to be going.
My creative process is exploring what I see and finding what speaks to me at the time. I never know what I will be making next. I like a challenge. I have been exploring different woodworking techniques.

In five years, I see myself retired from healthcare and continuing my journey with my woodworking business.

The message behind my woodworking is to find a piece of art that speaks to you, and not just big box store items.

Calling Chagrin Falls Creatives!

Meet Katie Wilson from Self Infuse...

My name is Katie, and I have been an entrepreneur for most of my life. I have a pet monkey and a dog, and I’m passionate about everything I do.

I’ve been officially doing this for five years, and this will be my first Avant-Garde show. I enjoy what I do and the happy faces it brings people when they buy my products.

I’ve always been the person to want to make something. I kept trying different things until I found the niche that makes me thrive. I discovered my talent by seeing things advertised or watching someone else do it and saying, “Hey, I’m sure there’s something on YouTube that I can learn from and do it myself.” I believe that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything your heart desires.

My creative process is like baking and making a science experiment at the same time. There’s a lot of mixing, temp control, strategy, and a little bit of math.

In five years, I see myself in my own brick & mortar, teaching my craft to others.

At Self Infuse, our products are handmade with all natural ingredients. Our goal is to make you feel happy, feel relief, and benefit from what we have to offer—whether it’s CBD, candles, or bath and body. We have something for everyone!

Meet Sara Holbrook from Sara Sew-and-Sew...
I am a children’s poet/author and sewist. My career has taken me to 65 countries over the years, where I have collected fabulous fabrics that I combine with high-quality thrifted garments to make one-of-a-kind pieces of clothing—quilted hoodies, jackets, cropped shirts, sweatshirt combos, and boho/hobo bags. (www.saraholbrook.com)

I’ve been doing this for about a year and a half, and this will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!

As Emily Dickinson would say, “I dwell in possibility.” I see possibility in everything, plus I am committed to helping save usable fabrics from the landfill. For years, I’ve had kids ask me at school visits what I would be if I weren’t a poet, and I always answered that I would sew. And here I am.

Truthfully, I got back into sewing seriously during the pandemic when I deconstructed a Vietnamese pollution mask and used it as a pattern to make over 1,000 masks.

As in any craft—writing or sewing—you have to put the time in to perfect your skills. Part of it is an eye for color and a certain amount of risk-taking. I also have a granddaughter and a daughter-in-law who let me know what is cool.

In five years, I see myself happily sewing and listening to music in my office/sewing room and sharing my creations with happy customers.

The message behind my work is simple but powerful. My clothing tag reads: Wrapped in Love — love the planet, love yourself. I truly believe when we act to preserve our environment, we are loving ourselves.

Meet Neville Lacey from The Lacey & Lacey Collection...
We are thrilled to participate in the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, marking our very first event with this agency.

The Lacey & Lacey Collection was founded in 2005 by Neville and Regina Lacey. Our journey began on a Saturday night, which ignited a passionate flame and inspired us to create a collection that reflects our love story.

As a small-town couple, we wanted to elevate our love for candle-making beyond sharing our creations with just family and friends. Our candles are hand-poured and presented in beautiful, repurposed vessels.

We use only premium ingredients, including high-quality waxes, fragrance oils, vessels, and wicks. Each candle is designed to provide an aromatic scent that elevates your atmosphere, infusing luxury and sophistication to any setting.
Enhance your mood and home décor with our selection of elegant glass vessels. Our carefully crafted fragrances will transport you on an adventurous journey, evoking cherished memories that last a lifetime. We pour our passion into every candle we create.

Meet Kayla Panchik from Sit 'N Shake Dog Bakery...
I am a dog mom who is not only passionate about my dogs, but literally all dogs. I think every dog deserves the best life possible. I have a passion for wanting to help as many dogs live their best life as I possibly can.

I’ve been baking dog treats and thinking about turning it into a business for about a year. I finally decided to go for it and officially create the business about a month ago. I had planned to launch online first, but when I saw this show, I really wanted to be a part of it.

This is my very first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show and I’m so excited! I already have my eyes on a few more I would like to attend this year.

What inspires me to create is ensuring my pups (and your pups) truly live their best lives—and that starts with making sure their food and treats are as high-quality as possible.

My Bernese Mountain Dog, Teddy, really struggled with stomach issues when he was a puppy. We tried everything and eventually learned he had trouble digesting protein like a normal dog could. After countless ER visits and a prescription diet, I realized how important it was to know exactly what was in his treats. So, I started making them myself. My dogs absolutely loved them, and I knew I wanted to share that joy with other pups.

Giving back is also a huge part of my mission. I want to help less fortunate dogs enjoy life a little more, which is why a portion of every sale goes to shelters and service dog organizations.

I've always had a creative side, but I don't really get to use it much in my daily work as an accountant. Once I had the idea for this business, that creative energy started flowing—and it’s been so much fun. From designing treat decorations to planning out the presentation, it's brought me real joy.

My creative process usually starts by figuring out a theme or shape for the treats. Once I have that, I brainstorm ways to bring it to life through decoration and just let the creativity take over. I’m still fairly new to all of this, so I’m learning something new every time I bake.

In five years, I hope we’ve grown into a thriving business with many happy customers—both two- and four-legged. Most importantly, I hope we’ve made a real impact by supporting shelters and service dog organizations through our contributions.

At Sit 'N Shake Dog Bakery, we believe every dog deserves love, nourishment, and a chance at a happy life. That's why we create wholesome, all-natural, homemade treats using high-quality ingredients—because our furry friends deserve the best. But we don’t stop there. We’re on a mission to be part of something bigger.

A portion of every purchase goes toward supporting shelters, rescues, charities, and service animal foundations. Whether through donations or by sending supplies, we are here to help as many dogs as we can receive the love and life they truly deserve.

Meet Gary Rihn from 75ALOFT Creative Turnings...
I'm a retired US Air Force/Air National Guard veteran, along with 32 years at a major airline (I was not a pilot at either job ironically). I have been woodworking my entire life, but only got into making pens after retiring from my airline job.
We live on a farm and I have a nice shop here. Some of the wood that I use actually comes from our property. Beyond that, I use a variety of other woods, epoxies and resins for the blanks that I turn on my lathe.

I create custom pens, wine bottle stoppers, key chains, and other small functional items. A lot of the time, the wood or epoxy tells me what shape it wants to take as I turn it and expose the grain or hidden patterns.

I'll head out to the shop in the evening, turn on some music, and just spend hours in front of the lathe, allowing things to happen. It's cheaper than going to therapy, and more fun.

Meet Catherine Casey from Agate & Rose Co...
Part-time, I’m the owner and designer behind Agate & Rose Co., and full-time, I work for a hospice company here in Cleveland. In my downtime, you’ll usually find me thrifting, exploring new corners of the city, or relaxing at home with friends and family. I’ve always had a soft spot for nature—especially flowers and birds—and you’ll see those influences woven throughout my work.

I launched Agate & Rose Co. on Etsy back in 2021, and while it was a great experience, I closed the shop in 2024 due to some ethical concerns with the platform. From there, I pivoted toward participating in vendor shows—and honestly, I found something I didn’t know I was missing. The personal, face-to-face moments with customers who fall in love with a piece in real time? That’s what it’s all about.

This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, and I’m really looking forward to connecting with attendees and fellow local artists!

My pieces are inspired by the vibrant landscapes of the Southwest and the deep-rooted traditions of folk art. I strive to capture the beauty of the natural world while creating designs that evoke a strong sense of heritage and identity.

Art has always been my language. It’s how I process the world and express myself when words fall short. From my earliest days as a kid sketching and creating, to experimenting with fiber and beadwork as an adult, it’s always brought me a sense of joy and fulfillment. I’ve been lucky to have a strong support system—especially my mom and my best friend Emily—cheering me on every step of the way.

Inspiration usually strikes through color, shapes, or a gemstone that I can’t stop thinking about. For more complex patterns, I map things out on graph paper—there’s a lot of trial and error involved! I’ll often create multiple versions before I land on something that feels just right. A true sign that I’ve nailed the design? I want to keep it for myself.

Over the next five years, I plan to continue doing vendor shows to keep that strong connection with the community. I’m also hoping to get my work into local shops and boutiques, and I’m currently exploring the idea of launching my own website to grow my online presence.

At the heart of my brand is empowerment through self-expression. I create pieces to help women feel bold and confident—whether that’s by embracing their personal style or stepping out of their comfort zones. When someone tells me they love a pair of earrings but think they’re “too [this] or [that]” to wear them, I always challenge that. Life’s too short not to wear the things that make you feel good.

"Spring" into March with the Chagrin Falls Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!

Meet Lauren Howie from Well Traveled...
By day, I work in Research Administration IT, by night, I'm working to perfect my sewing skills. I'm originally from Cleveland Heights, but now live in Lakewood. I've been finding new creative outlets since childhood but recently discovered sewing and fell in love with it. I am fairly new to the sewing game. I started two years ago and Well Traveled is a little over 1 year old.
The Chagrin Falls weekend will be my first Avant-Garde show! Growing up, I loved the anticipation and excitement prior to taking a trip. Travel was an adventure and a treat. I like to sew items that bring back that feeling. Also, I recently realized that custom work is the most rewarding for me. I love making a bag for someone who had an idea in mind and when they see it finished, they're thrilled. I like putting a smile on my customer's face.
For as long as I can remember, I've been crafting. If I'm not working with my hands, I'm not happy. I get such a kick out of creating something from nothing.
It came out of necessity actually. I moved out of the ceramics studio where I worked but needed to make Christmas presents for my family. I had a sewing machine but hadn't sewn anything before. I only had a couple weeks to learn and after a couple YouTube videos, I was hooked.

I typically get new ideas when I'm at work. I keep a notepad at my desk for super detailed lists of what I need to create a new design. I love the prototyping process, so I spend a lot of time working out the details and making a pattern in different ways. I make notes about everything I do. There are sketches all over the place.
In 5 years I'd hope to have a solid online business. It would be amazing if this could be my full-time job instead of just a side hustle. Every bag I make and fabric I choose, I keep this in mind; we all travel, might as well arrive in style.

Meet Karen Gawloski from WHERE????
I was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio and was blessed to have a mother who was creative and helped to bring out the creativity in me. I have been crafting for two years. This will be my first Avant-Garde show so I am very excited to be joining such a great community of artisans.
Words of wisdom and laughter are my main inspiration. I started out making things for myself which then led to others wanting to order and purchase one or two and from there it continued to grow. I was always encouraged growing up by my mother to try anything that interests me.  I often watch videos or read blogs and articles on crafting which provides with with the base to try new things.

In five years I would like to expand to other boutiques and larger shows. My message to my customers is to be inspired, embrace yourself and find time to laugh!

Meet Tiffany O'Niell from Tiffany O Studio...
My love for creating art started at a very young age, with my family.  I grew up surrounded by family members that are artists, so it was only natural that I grew into one.  My art started with photography and has been evolving into home decor, and accessories items.I started taking pictures ever since my father bought an old camera from a pawn shop and gave it to me to play with. I studied commercial photography at Ohio University specializing in food photography with a minor in fine art, and graduated in 2007.  I really enjoy taking photos of my surroundings, and trying new techniques in my photography. I am currently experimenting with coasters, wine charms, and more useable forms or my photography.
I have been creating usable art with my photography since 2010, so almost 8 years now! This will be my second Avant-Garde Show.My everyday surroundings are my biggest inspiration, for example my newest line that I have come out with is based around my backyard chickens. I carry my camera with me every day and whatever strikes me, tends to become a product of mine.  It all started with my Cleveland Skyline image and has evolved from there.

To be honest, I started this because I was getting burned out on my corporate photography career (still am).  Starting my personal business has given me a fantastic outlet to be creative and not have people tell me what to do. My passion and I talent was started when I was a child and my dad gave me a camera that he purchased at a pawn shop.  It was a gift that lead to a passion that stemmed my career, and passion.
My creative process all starts with an image.  Once I find an image that I am happy with I take it into my studio and I start to think about what would I want to use this image for?  I look around my house and literally say “would I hang this on my wall?”  Or “ Would I carry this around with me to work?”  and from there I start thinking about the different products that I could put the image on.  I try to solve someones problem.  Like make a good looking coaster, but it solves the problem of them getting damaged furniture.  Win Win!

In five years I'd like to be working on my business full time, and not working in the corporate world.  Also have my products in many different stores throughout the country. My message to customers is that i create beautiful usable art.  You don’t need to be rich to have nice art in your home!

Meet Ray Lazar from Ray's Carving and Woodworking
I am a retired maintenance worker/school bus driver for Solon Schools where I worked for 32 years. I have been carving since 2011, so about seven years. This will be my very first Avant-Garde Arts & Craft Show. I am inspired by nature, I like to try to capture nature's images in wood.

I discovered my talent when I was building our deck. I ended up at a woodshed while trying to match wood for my deck, I saw a wooden turkey feather and said I would like to do that someday. The owner of the gallery told me they have classes ever Thursday 3 hrs. Everything blossomed from there.

Where would I like to be in five years? Just doing things I like to do! Travel with my wife, fishing. Since I have retired I have six Saturdays and one Sunday! My mission is to make something pleasing to the eye. Never knew I had this type of Artistic talent.

Meet Jackie Ayers from Dyetology...
I am a fashion designer and designed for large brands such as Bath and Body Works, Lane Bryant, and Thirty One Gifts for 17 years until I left corporate to focus on my business full time.

I started my business in 2015. I have shown at three of the Columbus Avant-Garde Shows and excited to be traveling to Chagrin Falls this March!

I truly love the dye process and creating with my hands! I get alot of inspiration from nature and most of my color palettes are based on inspiration from nature’s beauty!
I started my business in 2015 as a creative outlet. I really missed making with my hands- everything we do in the Design industry is on the computer and when I started my business it was an outlet to do something creative for myself. I love the hands on approach with dying and sewing.

While I was the Columbus College of Art and Design getting my fashion design degree I took surface design classes and learned the art of hand dying. It was one of my favorite classes and I hand-dyed most of the pieces I created for my final Senior collection.
I start each season with collecting color research and inspiration for the new collection. I collect inspiration from magazines, trend services, Pinterest, nature etc.. I also research new hand-dying techniques that will yield a new look for my items. I then do many test color pieces to see what colors and techniques are working the best.

When it comes time to dye, I use premium quality base fabrics that are natural fibers such as silk, Rayon, Bamboo-Rayon, and silk-rayon blends. I also use professional grade, permanent dyes.
I use various Shibori (Japanese resist dyeing) techniques as well as ice dying techniques to yield a variety of looks. I sew and dye my items out of my Westerville, Ohio studio. Each item approx takes 12 steps from start to finish to complete.
I hope to grow my business and have a stronger on-line presence as well traveling though out the US to do more shows. I want to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that makes the woman wearing them feel special and unique. I use natural fibers such as silk, Rayon, Bamboo Rayon because I want each piece to feel so good on, you won’t want to take them off!
